About Billie Jean
Billie Jean Hill, LSW
“And love dares you to care for
The people on the edge of the night
And loves dares you to change our way of
Caring about ourselves”
- Queen and David Bowie, “Under Pressure”
About:
Billie Jean would describe herself as the weird goth kid that grew up (spoiler: everything turned out okay). She lives with her wife, who she adores, and their two spoiled dogs who have no respect for personal space or belongings, whom she also adores. On the rare free day, you might find Billie Jean working in her garden, or sprawled out on the floor writing while her herd of bunnies gallops around the room.
She took an unconventional path into an unconventional life, and has never regretted it. Billie Jean believes each of us can discover what gives our life meaning by learning to trust ourselves over the expectations we inherited.
Theoretical Framework and Modalities:
Coming from a social work background, Billie Jean’s framework is grounded in a strengths-based, systems-level orientation. She emphasizes that each person must be seen within the context of their environment. Billie Jean also believes that individuals generally possess more of what they need for growth than they have been led to believe.
She does not hold to a single theoretical model, and draws from a range of evidence-based approaches to best fit the particular needs of the person. Billie Jean relies most on the therapeutic relationship itself, as research indicates that the quality of this relationship is among the strongest predictors of positive outcomes. She views her role as a compassionate facilitator, recognizing the importance of a client’s trust. Billie Jean invites clients to attend to their own experience, to recognize strengths they may have overlooked, and arrive at solutions that are both meaningful and sustainable in the context of their actual lives. She aims to offer a relationship that is safe, respectful, and genuinely collaborative. Whatever change occurs belongs solely to the client, and Billie Jean is simply glad to be present for it.
The modalities she draws from include ARC (Attachment, Regulation, and Competency), Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT), Person-Centered Therapy, Motivational Interviewing (MI), and various DBT skills. Billie Jean also brings creative and body-based interventions into session, including sensory work (clay, sensory menus), grounding exercises, walk-and-talk sessions, miniatures for storytelling and play, zines, collaging, and personal narrative exercises for identity development and meaning-making
Billie’s Typical Clientele:
Billie Jean enjoys working with clients who connect more easily through creativity than talk alone. She is interested in working with children and teens that have experienced trauma, as well as the caregivers that support them. She enjoys supporting teens exploring their identity and values, as well as those who would benefit from DBT skills. She is interested in working with neurodiverse individuals who might benefit better from sensory-informed, flexible, or hands-on approaches as well as children or teens that have experienced trauma.
Education and training:
Billie Jean received her Bachelors in Psychology from Arizona State University where she graduated summa cum laude in 2023. She received her MSW from Illinois State University, where she graduated summa cum laude in 2026.

You are someone who marches to the beat of your own drum, or has felt misunderstood in therapy in the past.
