Experiential Workshop: Art and Creativity as a Process of Self-Understanding and Transformation

from $15.00

November 20, 2026, 9-11am CT

Art has accompanied humanity since ancient times and offers a form of expression that can communicate experiences beyond words. This workshop explores the unique properties of visual language and how the creative process can open new pathways for reflection, expression, and understanding.

Through discussion of underlying principles of art as a personal, therapeutic tool and hands-on exercises, participants will experience the creative process directly and explore how we relate to emotions, challenges, and life experiences.

Workshop topics include:

  • Art as visual language: symbols, metaphors, imagination, and expression beyond words

  • The creative process: how our ways of creating can reflect how we approach life and problems

  • Transformation through collage: experiencing how an image can be deconstructed and transformed into something new

  • Creativity and meaning-making: moving from searching for meaning to creating meaning

  • Art, emotion, and resilience: exploring how artistic expression can activate new possibilities for thinking and action

The workshop is grounded in the idea that a work of art is more than the sum of its parts. Similarly, the creative process can help us discover new perspectives on ourselves, our experiences, and the ways we engage with life.

Mental Health Professionals and Community Members who are interested in using creativity for self-development are welcome to attend.

No previous art experience is required. The emphasis is on the creative process and personal experience, not artistic skill or aesthetic outcome.

Materials: Just bring blank paper, glue, and your choice of painting or drawing materials (colored pencils, pastels, crayons, or paints) as well as writing materials.

Registration Fees:

  • $45 - Professional Rate (2 CEUs)

  • $30 - Standard Community Rate

  • $15 - Supportive Community Rate
